Dong Quai (root)

Dong Quai grows in the high altitudes of China, Korea, and Japan. The name literally translates to "compelled to return" which can be in relation to its ability to restore women to normal functioning. Significant amounts of B12 are found in the dried root, in addition to folic acid. Dong Quai has been used in the treatment of gynecological problems, such as irregular periods, menstrual cramps, infertility, and vaginal infection discharge. It has been traditionally used as an antispasmodic, in the management of anemia, to alleviate headaches, and in the treatment of menstrual disorders. It is also used to "purify" the blood, stabilize high blood pressure, and lower blood sugar. Another benefit of Dong Quai is its ability to calm the nerves.
